Hi, I am mixed Spanish and English. I have light brown skin and bright brown skin-eyed but it is not dark or too dark. Some people say I look arab and some people say I look spanish. What I am trying to say is that I must be more of one than the other, otherwise I am both. I am hoping for someone who has travelled to both Spain and Middle-East to help answer this question.

Well if you look back on history Arabs invaded Spain back when they ruled Persia and there were rumours of ethnic cleansing in southern parts of the country when this occured, You all have black hair and brown eyes so it's a big possibility you have Arabian blood in you.

You live in the UK...
Is it possible that you're British?
If that doesn't work, tell people that you're generic human.

thanks for info on moors, but it maybe a possibility that Spanish people may have also spread to Arabian Land, as a possible reason why yellow skinned (i am yellow skinned half spanish) or light brown spanish and yellow skinned or light brown arabs look the same. And there must be something difference in look between both spanish and arabs. The only difference I can think is more curly hair with arabs.

I'm usually quite blunt.. so please don't take offense, because I don't mean any...

But.. Why the f*** does it matter? You know your heritage, so it's not a question of that. Why do you need a label?

Moorish Arabs ruled parts of Spain in Mediaeval times, those genes are in some of the Spanish population. The Moors Were Arabic speaking north Africans from what is today Morocco!

Everyone should be interested in their ancestry! In modern times most people have no idea of their ancestries.

Thanks KAMPA I also agree that one should understand their ancestry and thus themselves.

I am getting more info about myself with this forum, I clearly have arab ancestry with the info from members of this site. Although I do also admit that if I do have arab ancestry then it is only a small part of me as Spanish people mix with other spanish people and also i am half english.

Many of the Moors remained in Spain after the reconquest in 1492. They converted to Catholisism,(the safe thing to do)
the Moorish Arabs brought Jewish people with them to Spain.
The inquisition went after both peoples! Originally the Moors invaded Spain for olives and never conquered in areas where olives would not grow!

I get this a lot. In my school there are so many arabs, and everyone mistakens me for arab. I'm actually spanish. I even had students ask me something in arab i mean i encounter this stuff to the fullest.

On the subject of studying your ancestry more, I've always been interested in mine, because my father is colombian and my mother is ecuadorian, however time and time again i've heard in my family that through my dad's side we may have moroccan roots. I never took it seriously until i started to constantly be mistakened for an arab.
