if you found yourself in the middle of a nuclear bomb testing site, would it actually work to lock yourself in a refridgerator? seems improbable...

Well it was certainly his best option. He would have been largely shielded from the radiation and insulated from the intense heat.

He wouldn't have been thrown that far - the fridge would have been destroyed before it took that much force. And ol Indy would have died from blunt force trauma.

But if the fridge didn't get ripped to shreds, he certainly would have had a shot.

Well, there definitely would've been lots of radiation exposure still, unless that refrigerator was coated with lead for some reason.

The fridge was one of those old school stainless steel jobbies, which would have blocked alpha, and beta radiation. Would not have blocked all the neutron or x/gamma ray radiation, but would have blocked enough of it for him to probably have lived through it.

Maybe Indy died of cancer 2 years later

he can do anything - its the art of films lol

Reality and Film have parted ways in this movie. I think it would more realistic if Inidi grew wings and shot laser beams out of his yes too.

The three preceeding films were noted for their realism.

Especially the scenes where the Ark was opened and it melted the flesh of and sucked in anyone who was near - but didn't affect anyone with their eyes closed.

Oh, and the second movie where a man literally reached in and removed a beating heart from a man's chest. The man continued to live, and the heart burst into flame for no apparent reason.

And the third movie where a man aged 50 years, died, crumbled to dust, and blew away in about 6 seconds because he drank from the wrong cup.

This film was definitely a big departure in the realism department

i dont remember the first two, but i do know that there really are some things that you can only drink from the cup of christ, or your life will be sucked from you in seconds... look it up... true fact...

It's a true fact the same way "you will get 72 virgins in heaven if you blow yourself up for Allah" is a true fact.

Didn't they zoom in on a label saying the fridge was lead lined or something?

But anyway, I think Jon is right that it was his best chance of survival, but ultimately I think it only increased his chances from none to 'virtually none'.

That's the joy of Indiana Jones movies though. They don't show what reality is, they show what it should be.

You can't survive a nuclear blast by hiding in a fridge - but you should be able to.

You can't drive a amphibious vehicle off a cliff, land on a branch and be gently lowered into the water - but you should be able to.

And no end of other stunts Indy pulls off that aren't possible - but really should be.

Because just imagine how cool life would be!

In the movie the fridge said it was lined with lead. But I think he would have certainley died in being thrown around.

I can just picture the audience's reaction if they put that in the end of the movie. Everyone would be thinking "WTF!?" Oh, wait. they already are b/c of how bad it was for an Indiana Jones type movie.
