It is one of the nano third gen ones - I wouldn't know how - or even if you can.

It's cool - all fixed now! Held down menu and select and it rebooted.

Good old Google!

Thanks for your time though

Ipods are sealed, like most (if not, all) apple products. You can't take the batteries out.

You could try holding the center button and the menu button longer than 10 seconds, see if that gets your ipod working.

Ah I just read the earlier post haha, woops.

First of all Ipods do not crash. You gave it an improper command for the ipod.
There is a hold switch on the Ipod, flip the switch towards the center of Ipod and
restart by holding down the center and top button on your Ipod till the apple
comes in view, all will return to normal with no data loss. And remember that
when you remove your Ipod from the computer, you first have to eject the Ipod
harddrive from the desk top, do not trash it, just eject it from the desktop, wait
a feww seconds and the Ipod screen will go to the normal start up screen then
it's safe to disconnect the Ipod from the computer!

No. The iPod crashed.

How can something be given an improper command if I am not doing anything to it.
