hard on the eyes

this might just be me
but have nearly all sites got a white primary background
i think this is just me but is that not a bit hard on the eyes

google , youtube, tfs, windows live (not a site but no matter) , ebay, myspace and loads more all have white backgrounds
really i might be the only one but that really is hard on the eyes

Black text on a white background is been proven to provide the best contrast, and if you notice, it's not just the interweb, newspapers, books, magazines and all sorts are made with black text on a white background.

im not suggesting every single webpage go onto the negtive im not suggesting anything im just saying that i find a very bright screen a bit hard to look at right now

Turn on some lights in your room, kullik! If you live in the dark, then I would agree, a white background will hurt your eyes. I used to favor a black background and green text, like the earlier computers were set up, by default. But living in the dark is not the best of things for your eyes,.... and you will develop other traits, characteristic of hairy, wrinkled subterranean moles.

You share my feelings exactly.
And yes, it is very hard on the eyes.
I wish they'd at least put the writing back black here on this site, rather than this orange.
