this is stuiped (i think) but i feel crapy about being a drummer cause i've been playing for 6 years and im really good at so many diferent styles of drumming my favourite is using all the toms(flat out) but i don't want to play the same simple rock beat over and over when im in band.

SHORT STORY
give ur sugestion on whats u think the best role is in being in a band eg, bass, lead, vocals, drumming

I think the bass because it is the foundation for the song and it has all those awesome chords and stuff to make it sound like rock...if I was in a band, I would want to play the bass....

i think you could still drum for your band but play drums your way(like you said using all the toms flat out). this could bring something new and unique to your band.

If you had one less instrument in a band, it would sound plain, thats my opinion anyway. Depends on your style n line up i suppose.
I love bein the drummer though.

My boyfriend played lead guitar for years, but then he bought a drum kit and got obsessed. He never plays guitar anymore!
I agree with metalheaddrummer though!

I suppose musicians will say the instrument they play is best, I guess when i made this topic (ages ago) i wasnt thinking 'hey, i can get off the kit once and a while and throw s*** into the audience and muck around. not just that, but i have really thought about it and i love drumming i was unsure of what i wanted to do but if i get sick of drums i guess i'll just play guitar or sing or what ever or sing while drumming add some s*** to my musical vocabulary. haha

man i draged this out

Drums are the best instrument in the whole world, although I like bass guitar too, so...it's one of those...

Each of those 3 instruments play a vital role in a band.

But the champion is always the bassist 8)

Stick with drums!!! The guitar decorates your rhythm, the bass decorates your beat, and you drive the whole thing along.

Its all equally important, but it all needs to be blended in the correct quantities. I suspect the issue you have is that the people you play with either have large egos or no musical vision, ergo you're stuck playing something bland.

Who writes the music of the people you play with? If there is a sole writer, the tendency is to write with emphasis on their instrument of choice. Very rarely do people consider the more subtle option of "less is more". eg if a song is written on acoustic guitar, chances are the song will remain in a similar state as it was originally conceived and other basic parts will be added to it, rather than stripping it down to its core and thinking how each instrument can best compliment the work.

You should try to get this sort of mentality going with the people you play with... it should allow you to move in a direction you are more comfortable with (though don't expect to have it all your way or you're back to square one)
