From what I've learned, the Washington Redskins were first called the Washington Braves. And both names were to honor the head coach. But the terms used in the past, if we can't figure out that the past may have had some problems, do we ever really move forward? Who doesn't like to see the Cowboys play the Redskins? Are these terms keeping something alive within our society that we should rather let die? If it was bold enough to call a team the Slaves a long time ago, and then upgrade it to the Niggers to honor a head coach who happened to be black, I don't think that would ever fly. Do we do this to honor the American First Nations folks? Or is it done to make ourselves feel better about what happened and still exist?
Willi.....I consider you a dear friend! Because of your amazing way in which you not only conduct yourself on this site and in these threads, my respect has grown with each interaction we've had! And I don't see that ever changing! At first glance at this thread's topic and title, I of course was taken aback.......but knowing you as I do, I understand COMPLETELY where you are coming from. Kudos for a great thread my friend!
