Honestly. ATM I'm cracking up because there's three credit report ads on this page.

You are entitled to a free credit report every year. All you have to do is write to the company or request one online. All those things like FreeCreditReport.com (see ad on the lower right) do is monitor your credit. They might also help you dispute inaccuracies.

And, unfortunately, you do have to protect your credit score just because some employers do check your score.

Use that site if you would like a real, free, copy of your credit report. You can check it there once a year without any type of fee, and you get access to the three main reporting agencies.

I did that once. I checked my score that same day and discontinued it the next. They told me I had to wait a week, and I said no way.
