Most people will probably remember the news that a young girl (was her name Emma?) was killed when her grandmother allowed her dog into the house. The dog attacked the girl and killed her (as far as I understand)

I was half-watching the news a few minutes ago, and there was a report on her grandmother's trial. Some of the things the parents said was frankly sickening. They called the dog "evil" and said that it was "jealous" of Emma(?) because it was not allowed in the house when she was there.

I fully sympathise with the parents, and this must have been a traumatic experiece, but I can't see how an animal can be considered "evil". This might be because I don't believe in "good" or "bad" animals, but animals that don't know what the rules are, through the faults of their owners. But yes, an animal should be put down if it has attacked a human.

I'm probably going to get flames for this from people with children, and feel free to, but I don't believe that this was the fault of the dog, but the fault of the grandmother and I find it disgusting what the parents are projecting onto the dog.

totally agree, the animal was not 'evil'.it was folowing its natural instinct,
those dogs are bred to be vicious so thats what they are designed to do!
attack!
but i also agree that if the dog proves to be a danger then it should be put down.

Yep, agree on all counts. Of course the grandmother was following instinct also, as were the parents. Blame isn't really just when you think of it...but i'll take that to the free will thread

You wouldn't find it so cute when ripping out your throat

Has to be killed, then the grandmother prosecuted for animal abuse (action leading to its death) and child endangerment or somesuch. Very irresponsible to put it mildly

some dogs can kill, it is their nature/instinct to do so, they are not evil, but should be trained or kept away from children. that is all there is to it.

I totally agree with you Kit, it was the fault of the grandmother, she let the dog into the house so I feel that she's responsible

I also heard that the little girl liked to torment the dog that is the stupidest f***ing thing you could let a child do to a dog of that nature Didn't the family know that dog was dangerous?

Yeah, they said it wasn't allowed in the house when the girl was there. The gran let it in because it was at the door whimpering.

Then it's the grandmothers fault.

Do you know why the dog and girl weren't allowed in the house the same time in the first place? that's a bit strange. I wouldn't keep a dog around that I might find harmful to my child/children.

I think the gran wanted to keep it or something... they just didn't let it near the girl just in case.
