My mom is always telling me not to do this because it'll get me sick from the metal or something. Is this true?

it's dependent on what the spoon is made of

some metals are toxic and react to acidity in foods

Well if all your spoons end up in ice cream containers, your mother may have trouble finding any when she needs them

they don't now .......most spoons are stainless steel, which is not harmful, but back in the days of yore that wasn't the case

cream of tartar,for instance,in a copper bowl can be especially toxic

mum also told me not to keep tinned fruit in a can in the fridge, or to keep a spoon in it. I think it makes the whole thing taste bad.

As mentioned before on here,always take off metalic lids like the ones on yoghurts once the food item has been opened,it lasts longer.Something to with oxidisation or however it is spelt lol.
