It was just a matter of time before the Bronx Bombers started flexing their muscles... and today was that day.
The Big Unit was on cruise control from the very first pitch, Derek Jeter had three hits, and Jason Giambi delivered the haymaker in a 7-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. Giambi slugged two home runs and drove in five runs.
The Big Unit carved up the Orioles with a vast array of pitches. Randy Johnson pitched eight masterful innings with five strikeouts.
Mariano Rivera pitched the ninth.
The most impressive of Giambi's home runs came in the third inning when he smashed his second of the day off the facade of the upper deck in right-field.
"This is the best I've felt in a while." Giambi said. "My swing has felt good this year."
Giambi also ripped a two-run double in the seventh.
7 players had at least one hit for the Yanks.
