In art, my friends and I were talking about our relationship preferences. I brought up the question:
"Who wouldn't you date?"

I said: I'd never date a guy with a drug or alcohol problem.
My friend, Blair, said: "I wouldn't date a black guy."

When asked why, she said:
"Idk, I just wouldn't. I don't mind being friends with a balck person though, obviously"

Well yeah, our friends Jamicka and Tyler (both are black) were both sitting there in the conversation, and we're good friends with both of them.

So would you call her racist?

I don't think she's racist.
Jamicka said she probably wouldn't date a white guy.

Eh...while it does have a tint of racism, that's just her pesonal opinion. As long as she didn't say, "I wouldn't date a black guy because bla bla bla...." then I wouldn't go crazy and call her racist.

It just her personal taste.

Excluding someone for the color of their skin is racist.

Excluding someone for any reason uncontrollable by them, is prejudice.

No. It's just personal preference.

There is a big differrence between bigotry and racism,I don't think your friend could be called either if she has true friends who are African American! But she is getting close!

I think its just a little ignorant because you have no idea who you are going to meet in the future.

No, because they do have the right not to date anyone, strange as it may seem.

More than likely it's just personal opinion than racism.

A lot of cultures are not keen for their offspring to marry out of culture. Its a fear of losing them.

Same as people like to marry within their own religion.

I dont think its a hateful thing, i just think its a shame to exclude people based on being different.
