Why are so many peoples gender "not applicable"??

ive noticed many people have n/a for their gender, not that it really matters (everyones equal) but shouldn't it be made when you fill out your details, to put it in and you get a prompt if you missed it?
Its just so you know who your talking to.

Most of the time you can just tell by looking at their avatar.

I never understood it either. I mean, don't you read all the fields when you're filling out personal information?

Maybe people do it so they don't get "those" kinds of PMs

maybe they don't know themselves?

some people prefer not to say for whatever reason

some people have an avatar which is of there b/f or g/f. And some are just completly random.
