Who was correct, Jews or Christians? Was Eden our elevation or our fall?

The Jewish view. https://www.mrrena.com/misc/judaism2.php

“Instead of the Fall of man (in the sense of humanity as a whole), Judaism preaches the Rise of man: and instead of Original Sin, it stresses Original Virtue”

In a nutshell, the Jews saw man acquiring a moral sense equal to God’s, --- as man being elevated.
Gen 3; 22 And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil:

The Christian view sees the same story and preaches our fall and all of us inheriting our forefather’s sin. https://www.biblegateway.com/resources/dictionaries/dict_meaning.php?source=1&wid=T0001304

“They prove the loss not only of innocence but of original righteousness, and, with it, of the favour and fellowship of God.”

The Bible seems to favor the Jewish view.

Deuteronomy 24:16 (ESV) “Fathers shall not be put to death because of their children, nor shall children be put to death because of their fathers. Each one shall be put to death for his own sin.

Ezekiel 18:20 (ESV) The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not suffer for the iniquity of the father, nor the father suffer for the iniquity of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself.

The declaration which says that God visits the sins of the fathers upon the children is contrary to every principle of moral justice. [Thomas Paine, The Age of Reason]

Whose view is more intelligent and moral and why?

One mustn't confuse generational suffering for the doctrine of the Fall. Remember Christians also use the OT. Ezekiel 18:20 and Deuteronomy 24:16 speak to how God judges others and how we are to judge others. There is no difficulty in understanding and accomplishing that while knowing that once there was no sin, no disease, and no death.

Sure. No death. To fools.

The O P is asking a moral question but like many Christians, you seem reluctant to put yours out there. Opine or be seen as having poor morals.

How is becoming as God, in the moral sense, a fall?

The myth in question was the Jews' myth, so their opinion would be the correct one.

The snake tried and the snake failed. There is no becoming like God. There is but one Creator and Sustainer and you are not He and you cannot approach Him.

But that's what we're told.

I interpret Romans 5:12 to mean that humans did not die before the Fall.--possibly other animals too.

So Adam "fell".......so, as he was the first human there were none before him. Where does literalism begin and end?

Does "Adam" represent humanity as a whole? And if so, who "fell"? Was it the Neanderthals, or some other like group now identified as occupying our earth long ago. And as for animals, were they all vegetarians prior to the fall of whoever it was "fell".

But there we have it. Paul states one thing ("for as in Adam all men die, so in Christ shall all be made alive" ), a theology of salvation is constructed upon it, and the rest follows. Human beings insisting that snakes spoke or whatever, that the world popped up ready made a few thousand years ago......and some actually thinking God will reward them for thinking it.

Now you speak for and give conditions to God. How droll.

You did not answer the question though but did indicate that God lied in scriptures.

I agree since God id the father of lies.

And you believe all that you are told like a gullible fool.

Adam and Eve ate the apple not because they wanted the apple, but because it was forbidden to them. The error was in not making the serpent forbidden. Then they would've eaten the serpent.
