Continuing on this theme, there is the character in Sartre's novel Nausea, the "auto-didact" who is observed by Sartre's "anti-hero" Roquentin constantly reading in the local library. At first his reading appears random, but then it is realised that the guy is reading each and every book alphabetically by author. For him, "all knowledge", his ambition to find his "answer". The futility of his ambition is exposed when his liking for young boys and subsequent indiscretions sees him led away by the powers that be.

One possible lesson, drawing on the Dogen thread, Dogen's words again:- "Therefore, if there are fish that would swim or birds that would fly only after investigating the entire ocean or sky, they would find neither path nor place."

Maybe others seek no definitive time, path and place. But if not, what?

An incomplete or muddled sight picture can destroy a message.

Recently I found an article written about the suicide of Jesus

The Suicide of Christ Jesus

Jesus is simultaneously a Cosmic figure, a teacher, a miracle worker, a healer, Creator of all things, Final Judge, First Born of God . . . .

It's almost impossible to consider all of these attributes at once.

The article, just on its face profanes the death of Christ. The bible states that Jesus could have called 12 legion of angels for protection (Mathew 26). But he stayed and died.

Suicide doesn't explain the why. Why did Christ die?

The enemies of Christ will glibly point at Christ as a pitful Suicidal figure.

The fact that Christ chose to die, that he gave up without a fight, doesn't begin to describe what happened.

True. As I have argued, mixing "Jesus" and "Christ" muddles the whole picture.

For anyone interested in a simple unmuddled message there is "The Universal Christ" by the Franciscan friar Richard Rohr, in which creation itself is recognised as the primary "revelation".

"He said to them, "But who do you yourselves say that I am? Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

And what about all the TFS peeps?

Who is the person of Jesus?

He is a personality from the Christian belief system. He is part of their God. Their God consisting of The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit.

He also married a prostitute but that was left out of the Bible for some reason.

Jesus is married and the story is mirrored to Hosea's marriage to Gomer.

Jesus' actual bride is the confessing church. He died for the church and the blood Jesus shed washes the sins away as white as snow.

No according to the dead sea scrolls he married Mary Magdelene. But that is irrelavent apparently, so certain people have distorted the truth.

So there you go. Let us not even consider the Universal Christ. Let us not even consider what has the potential to unite and heal all divisions.

No, let us continue to bicker about Jesus, whether married or whatever, and let us make claims that imply that he only heals and saves a "confessing" group of the self-elected.

The human race is very tribal. Always has been, always will be.

Your statement is relevant and so are the dead sea scrolls.

But they don't claim Mary Magdelene is the wife of Jesus.

Feel free to post sources to back that up.

I like how books on any/all of the various religions are found in the non-fiction section of book stores (brick & mortar or online).

I mean if any one of them is right the others are all fiction.

And... the Dead Sea Scrolls contain nothing about Jesus.

So that's that then. None of us have a choice.

Of course, we all have a choice. Hence we are tribal. Otherwise we would just be robots following the same instructions.

And if we were robots following the same instructions, whose instructions should we follow and why them out of everyone elses. Why should I give up my beliefs to follow yours, or vice versa?

Nor has it explicitly been found in any other of the gospels or texts left out of the Bible when it was assembled. There is no doubt that Jesus doted heavily on Mary in some of these, but one still has to make the leap to assume that Jesus married her. It certainly cannot be presented as fact, as you seem to do.

Regardless, irrelevant to his message.
