What to wear over a "little black dress"

What can I wear that is a bit more fashionable and will keep me warm without looking like a bag-a-bon? It doesn't have to be something that will be kept on, but something I can warm up in if need be. I'm a jeans and a t-shirt/sweatshirt kind of girl, lol, so I need all the help I can get here! My dress is a tank type, little black dress, just above the knee with cutouts at the waist and lower back (mesh inserts of course)....please tell me that isn't too out of date to wear on top of it????

A coat? Or a black cardigan perhaps?

I think maybe a leather jacket or something along those lines would look nice with it? Or maybe just a simple cardigan, depends which look you want to go for.
Wearing an entire layer of clothing on top of that dress just sounds like a diabolical mess and I cannot possibly let you go out in it
