The following is a list of quotes regarding the Bible, which people you may have heard of have said:

Abraham Lincoln: "I believe the Bible is the best gift God has ever given to man. All the good from the Saviour of the world is communicated to us through this book."

Napoleon: "The Bible is no mere book, but a living creature, with a power that conquers all that oppose it."

Queen Victoria: "That book accounts for the supremacy of England."

Lord Tennyson: "Bible reading is an education in itself."

Immanuel Kant: "The existence of the Bible, as a book for the people, is the greatest benefit which the human race has ever experienced. Every attempt to belittle it is a crime against humanity."

Charles d***ens: "The New Testament is the very best book that ever was or ever will be known in the world."

Helen Keller: "Unless we form the habit of going to the Bible in bright moments as well as in trouble, we cannot fully respond to its consolations, because we lack equilibrium between light and darkness."

Dwight D. Eisenhower: "To read the Bible is to take a trip to a fair land where the spirit is strengthened and faith renewed."

George Washington: "It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible."

God bless you.

Abraham Lincoln: "It will not do to investigate the subject of religion too closely, as it is apt to lead to Infidelity."

George Orwell: "As with the Christian religion, the worst advertisement for Socialism is its adherents."

Mark Twain: "The gods offer no rewards for intellect. There was never one yet that showed any interest in it."

John Adams: "God is an essence that we know nothing of. Until this awful blasphemy is got rid of, there never will be any liberal science in the world."

Emily d***enson: "They say that God is everywhere, and yet we always think of Him as somewhat of a recluse."

Thomas Edison: "The great trouble is that the preachers get the children from six to seven years of age and then it is almost impossible to do anything with them."

Benjamin Franklin: "Lighthouses are more helpful than churches."

George Washington: "Of all the animosities which have existed among mankind, those which are caused by a difference of sentiments in religion appear to be the most inveterate and distressing, and ought to be deprecated."

Just goes to show, how many people have said many similar things, even in these forums, yet they haven't been quoted.

Are what they say not as credible as someone who has a name for them self that says the exact same thing.

Just an observation in general. Not at you posting it.

Actually it goes to show that you can take two quotes from the same person ( if you do it out of context like aquine and I did ) and make them seem like they have opposite viewpoints on the same subject.

I havent read any of the biographies of the people quoted by Aquine, but I would hazard a guess that very few, if any, actually believed that the Bible was "infallible" in quite the same way as Aquine, or if they did, interpreted it in the same way.

I really can't see the point of this.

Human intelligence does not keep one alive.

It is the Word that gives life.

The wages of sin are death.

Please direct me to a verse in the Scripture which you hold up as being untrue.

Its more misinterpretation that I deal with, which given the multitude of Protestant sects all apparently based upon an Infallible book, seems to prevail. As I have said repeatably, the doctrine of sola scriptua was a proclamation of Luther - it is in that sense a modernism

I've spoken with Bible Believers who have insisted that once saved, a person cannot lose their salvation, others who insist the opposite. Those who insist that the unsaved will eventually be put out of their misery, others who insist that the unsaved with suffer eternally. I really cannot think of anything more fundamental than questions such as these yet apparently the infallible Bible is unable to provide a definitive answer.

There are many good books out there that demonstrate quite clearly that the idea of an infallible Bible is paradoxically unbiblical.

But whats the point of all this?

All the best
tariki

P.S. As something I would consider untrue, I would point to the story of the sun standing still and "did not go down for a whole day". Joshua 10 v13-15. Obviously, the sun does in fact stand still all the time relative to the planets, which orbit around it. So the earth would have had to stop revolving, causing just a little bit of gravitational chaos. There is the story of Martin Luther, who, when Galileo was mentioned - who taught of the sun being at the centre - got angry and stamped his foot. "Joshua told the sun to stand still and thats the end of it!!" he cried! Well, I suppose it was, at least for his own credibility.

My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? (Lev 24:10-16) Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)
