What makes for a good website

i was just wondering what people think make a good website?

be it graphics?, interactivity?

so what do you think?

for me its pictures and backgrounds LOL.

one thing for me, it has to have a good layout, and not be cramped into the space. everything has to be spread out, and easy navagation

Content worth viewing.
A simple, clean, consistent, intuitive interface for accessing that content.

Tell me honestly - what 5 websites do you spend the most time on? Probably sites like TFS, Youtube, Google, etc..

A site that contains an interest of yours.. something not overly done but nice on the viewing eyes.. A site where you can find what you want easily and fulfills your needs and wants.

Basically what jonnythan has already said.

Simple layout but eye-catching, easy to navigate, quick to load, interesting content. Oh and the fewer ads the better.

some websites are really ugly, too many words, or pictures.

Just having it all set out neatly is perfect. And that has to stay consistent through the entire site.

Yeah I agree.
If you haven't got anything interesting, people are just gonna give it one look and leave.
Give them something to keep coming back to.
Have a community feel.
