Let me just make a small correction to make this more understandable.

That's what it should say.

You believe that you can think complex thoughts because you have a soul?

Does it matter? Humans can. No other animal in existence can write speculative fiction, in any sort of language.

I can tell ghost stories. I can plan my retirement. I can think about having a child and where he might go to college. I can discuss the implications of Voltaire's writing. I can wonder aloud at what would have happened if Lincoln had not been shot. I can pretend I'm an astronaut.

No organism besides Homo sapiens can do any of these things.

These are incredibly complex thought processes. I can't think these things because I have a soul - I can think them because my brain is more complex and sophisticated than any other animal's thanks to evolution.

Yes, I did get your point. We can also do this:

I believe humans and animals have souls
They say there is more humans alive now then there is dead and if a person was to believe in reincarnation
I would have to think that it must count animals too
meaning we could of been a animal in our past or they could of been a human.
No person really knows the reality of it all
I guess it all comes down to what everyone within themself believes in.

Compare the highlighted definitions, do they not mean one and the same?

Um.. No.
They do not mean one and the same. If they meant one and the same the definitions would be the same. They are different because they have different definitions.

Uh.

No.

If they did mean the same thing, it would simply be saying that the ability to think is, itself, the soul. If you want to accept that definition, then the soul is a perfectly natural thing bound to physical reality.

Do you believe there is an intrinsic property in humans that seperates them from animals?
A soul perhaps?

Is the difference between humans and 'animals' over some such unique ability or quality or is it simply a matter of degrees, us being much better but not that different?

Basically what do you think humans can do but animals cannot?
Animals can use tools, communicate with eachother, display emotion partake in complex social behaviour, many have equal and in some cases better memory.

(for clarification, i recognise that humans ARE animals, but you know what i mean)

I believe that humans have a better data processing ability than animals do. That said, this doesn't mean that animals are less or inferior to humans. We must never underestimate the power of a wild animal. Animals have souls just like us. They feel the same way we do. They are also social animals. They don't live in a tribe, clan, herd, etc... for no reason.

Exactly, I never intimated otherwise. I am not in agreement with the religious views of soul.

Why did you change my post so that it says "I can think these things because I do have a soul"?

Saying that I'm dumber than a macaque doesn't make it true.

Let's see a macaque learn to write speculative fiction in Latin. Think they can do that?

Lets say you could write speculative fiction in Latin. Who would care? It isn't like it would be more significant than a macaque display.

No one is saying you are dumber than a macaque. You both have similar traits and imagine they make you special. It is a chauvinist view. It is only natural for any creature, from worm to eagle, to imagine itself center of all creation. None are.

Look at yourself. You are reduced to being obnoxious in efforts to seem significant. How is that different than a monkey flinging poo?

Again, please address the content of my posts.

Saying that I'm obnoxious and overly chauvinist, then comparing me to a monkey flinging fecal matter, is nothing more than a personal attack.

They are not personal attacks and are very much on topic. Should I go to the other thread that you peppered with foul language and copy and past that over to this one so that you may see how very similar that is to a monkey flinging poo? You are not that special. None of us are.
