America is a melting pot of people. There are many different types from all over the world here. And yet, some people still have the audacity to use the term "real American".

So I'd just like to know, What the hell is a "real" American? If American simply means you live in America, what make someone any less of an American than another?

I would imagine it would be a native Indian American. After all, they where there first.

I think it has more to do with patriotism and respect for someone's beliefs and opinions rather than race or looks.

"Real America" is a term that is used pejoratively to divide people. It's used to create a sense of cohesiveness against a group, to rally them against an "adversary," usually a political one.

To me, that's more of a description of an ideal person, not just an American.

And to be perfectly honest this post was a rant ignited by another post in which someone told someone else that they had the opinion they did because they were a "real" American. So because I have a different viewpoint, I'm less of an American?

We are all Americans if we live in the United States, but to me a true American are the ones that go and fight for our country. I could not have enough admiration for the men and women that do this. Thank You

I think a "real" American is anyone who wants it bad enough. The people who come here from other countries and work hard to learn about this country, and take the time to become citizens are probably the best thing that could happen to this country.

People who decide to become Americans are the ones who cherish it the most.

Here, lol.

A real American is someone born in America.

Clever, isn't it?

This actually surprises me I'm glad you've had good experiences but just be aware that the grass isn't always greener on the other side.
