Well, I limit the total number because when a topic gets really long it uses more server resources. When you click on the button to view the posts since your last visit, it has to search through ever post in the topic to find the ones that were made later than the last time you visited.

With shorter topics it's faster because it only has to search a few posts. With longer ones, it takes longer, and takes more RAM and CPU.

So that's the reason topics end after getting a ton of posts.

wait, how come the first "post your mind" only had 1001 pages, whereas the second had like 3000 and something.

The first one also was set at 15,000 where as the second and third at 20,000 posts.
