Here it is.

"There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me -- because they want to give something back. They know they didnít -- look, if youíve been successful, you didnít get there on your own. You didnít get there on your own. Iím always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.

"If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If youíve got a business -- you didnít build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didnít get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.

"The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together. There are some things, just like fighting fires, we donít do on our own. I mean, imagine if everybody had their own fire service. That would be a hard way to organize fighting fires.

"So we say to ourselves, ever since the founding of this country, you know what, there are some things we do better together. Thatís how we funded the G.I. Bill. Thatís how we created the middle class. Thatís how we built the Golden Gate Bridge or the Hoover Dam. Thatís how we invented the Internet. Thatís how we sent a man to the moon. We rise or fall together as one nation and as one people, and thatís the reason Iím running for President -- because I still believe in that idea. Youíre not on your own, weíre in this together."

Do you truly not understand the message here? Or are you so wrapped up in your dislike of Obama that you can't see the truth behind the words?

looks like election time .... appealing to a sense of national pride always strikes an emotional chord .... especially when the general public need something to believe in ... there'll be more cosy speeches in the coming weeks ... it's just like releasing a hit record ... it'll resonate for a while and make people feel good ..and that's all it needs to do .

This is because Romney is running ads taking the comment out of context, and making it look like Obama said "If you started a business, you didn't do it on your own".. when that's not what he said at all, when placed in context.

Not that it matters, because both sides do it, and most people are so polarized, that they only hear what they want to hear, and dismiss anything that doesn't fit what they want as false..

Fortunately, the independents in the US are generally better educated and open minded enough to check sources and do their homework, and they're the ones who decide elections now..

oh ok ..thanks for the context ... and yes i hear you regarding the polarity of the electorate in general ... it's a pity that they can't all afford to be independents .

If they were, we wouldn't have people like Hoppy or TPT to make fun of.

Let's hope you're right. It'll be a nice change of pace from the mindless mudslinging this election has been dominated by so far.

What has the GOP said? Sorry, other things have been happening locally that distracts me from hearing what every single person says and how their opposition twists it into something else. That's assuming I feel like trudging through the mud to find out what the mudslinging of the day is in the 1st place.

I love the irony of the Mitt Romney ad at the top of the page here..

"Mitt Romney wants less spending and smaller government. Donate Today!"
