Fast Food places here are the worst. They throw complete hambergers, fries etc. in the garbage because they sat under the heat lamp too long. They can't have the mission up the street pick them up for the homeless because of possible lawsuits.

Our local politician was on radio yesterday complaining that during December he received over 24 inches in depth of printed reports. Every line of which he could have read on their web site. When you consider how many politicians there are that's a hell of a lot of waste.

I think that is one of the sad things about America today and that's it's litigation culture. I work for a U.S. company and boy do I know it. Sadly, like all things from that side of the pond, it always manages to swim over here.

I dont think its just companies, but people over all who are wasteful. And its disgusting to think the amount of food thrown out per annum, when two thirds of the world are starving.

Local supermarkets used to give their out of date food to charities but because of some stupid rules they now dump the perfectly edible food.

Maybe if you were to explore policy and procedures you might discover the answer. The legal aspects might also be playing a factor.

I don't know, but if you are talking about volume, desk, chairs, etc.. there are companies that will come take that stuff off your hands and sign a wavier!

Not stupid rules. They cant stock out of date food. You and I would be the first to complain if we bought a loaf of bread with yesterdays date on it. Yes in theory its fine, and yes in theory it wont hurt you, but they cant stock it.

there was a top gear program on last year where they drove three cars across america and when they got to new orleans they decided to give their cars away instead of selling them. there was a note at the end of the program saying that the people who had been GIVEN jeremy's car were complaining cos it wasnt what they were told it was, it was a slightly older model and if they paid X amount of dollars in compensation the lawyer would let it drop.
how bloody ungrateful is that???

But now they can't GIVE it away when it reaches the best before date. That's stupid waste.

Of course they cant give food away if its passed a date. Thats stupid to even propose. They need to protect their backs.

I did. We'd throw stuff away five days before it expired.
