Amendment 64 passes in Colorado

This amendment requires the general assembly to enact an excise tax to be levied upon wholesale sales of marijuana, requiring that the first $40 million in revenue raised annually by such tax be credited to the public school capital construction assistance fund.

So they will tax it somehow and expect a fair amount of revenue.

It'll be interesting to see what impact this has on crime/drug use and the wider society. If it works there then it would make sense to expand it to other parts of the country.

You know, I really wonder how this would effect business and health insurance.

In FL, more and more places are becoming non-smoking areas. Colleges, universities, restaurants, public parks, almost all public areas are slowly becoming non smoking. Add to the fact that insurance premiums are also going up for those that are smoking starting Jan 13... who can really smoke freely anymore?

I also wonder if you'll need a special license to grow the stuff in your backyard now, either that or are you only allowed to buy a certain FDA approved kind.

Insurance companies have been surcharging individual products for smoking/tobacco use for years. This is nothing new. (I recall one or two rare cases where the smoking surcharge was for marijuana because the applicants actually reported that he smoked on a regular basis. Not sure why they would admit to such on an insurance application, e.g., "weed only. Perhaps they were under the influence at the time. )

I'm all for legalizing it, what do you think of this development?

What do I think of it? I voted for it. Prohibition didn't work in the 20's. Why should it work now?

Great, now we will have all the conservatives moving to California...

I thought they were all moving out

I heard they were all moving to Canada, you know, the country with a universal Socialist healthcare system and way more restrictive gun laws.
