I need to buy a new vaccum cleaner, and I have absolutely no idea what the hell I'm on about.

I need it to be fairly powerful as we have a short tight pile apparently ( I don't understand carpets LOL) and I dare say that the carpet is cheap... It collects dust nice and easily and the hoover we have at the moment just doesn't work, we're sweeping it with a stff bristle brush instead as it works better at getting the dust/fluff out.

So help me please I don't get this 1600w/1800w or whatever and what the hell are air watts?

I know

I'd stick with the broom, if it's working. I've done that plenty of times.

It takes ages and with a baby I'm not sure it's practical

the higher the watt the more powerful the hoover! I would opt for one that has filters to reduce the risk of allergies. you can buy hoovers designed with pets in mind! might be an idea with baby due any minute

Dyson are by far the best in my experience but yeah they come at a price and when they break they tend to do so epically and repairs aren't cheap!

My mum had an Electrolux that was pretty good! Considering I've got a dog and three cats there's hair EVERYWHERE it cleaned up pretty damn well

I had an electrolux, it half died after bout a year. Wouldnt suck nothin. We brought a dyson instead and never looked back. They are more expensive but they last a long time and ours came with a 5 year garantee.
