I'm normally in the living room still, or I fast forward through them.

It depends on the programme. Different types of programmes use different camera and mic styles.

Live programmes for example the level is exactly the same as adverts, whilst all programmes on BBC are quieter than any other channel.

I can't remember the specific names for all the things but a mate of mine doing Media Studies was explaining it to me, it's all really interesting.

I know some of them are louder so as to catch your attention, but it could also just be the difference between the default volume of the programme and the advert.

They are louder for whatever reason and it's annoying. I just tune out commercials for the most part anyways

True.

Also they turn up the transmitting power for commercials because when if it is s*** weather my freeview breaks up,but then when adverts come on it is a crystal clear picture until the show starts again.

I was reading about some American network that got into trouble because of this.

EDIT* - Got it bit wrong lol

I think it's a number of reasons. One being that you can't escape from them without muting the TV , another so that you'll pay attention to them.

What's sneaky is the hearing aid commercials that are loud, low toned and muffled. They make you feel like you have a hearing problem.

I don't think I've seen those I am kindof deaf. Ask Maxi I don't know how many times I have to have something repeated in a day. *sigh*

I'm sorry, what was that?

I'm a bit deaf myself, but I can tell a difference in those commercials. It's so annoying.

Yes. They are louder.

I think the idea is to catch our attention, and make us remember them?
Well they do catch the attention, but only cause severe irritation. I mute them, and don't listen at all. As I imagine most people do. It's noise warfare basially. And who likes to be assaulted?

Something to do with compression. My boyfriend explained it to me once, but the info didn't stick.
