I guess we are starting to see the effects of the summer hurricane season Produce here in the US has skyrocketed. Local fast food joints are cutting back on the use of tomatoes on their menus unless the customer specifically ask for it. Potatoes have went through the roof also.

I love tomatoes but I just can't force myself to pay four bucks a pound for a tomato.

Jeeze! That's incredible. Just don't buy them and they will have to lower the prices.

It's ridiculous, We've had to cut down on the use of tomatoes at work a lot. People can't afford to pay this. I even went to the flea market over the weekend because they always have cheaper produce and hell theirs were 3 bucks a pound.

Why are they so expensive? Did something happen?

That really is expensive. You could buy a William Shatner album for that price. Hahahahaha!

Here in the USA, they're probably like a dollar or two...I haven't priced them in awhile. But FOUR DOLLARS. No way. I'd go tomatoless.

We pay about the same here. Our Icelandic tomatoes are cheaper beacuse they are grown in greenhouses powered/heated by volcanic action. The large Mediteranean tomatoes are slightly more expensive but nowhere near those prices. $4. a pound is friggin ridiculous!

I have'nt bought any for my personal use , but of course we have to buy some for work. I just heard something on the local new about the tomatoes going up because of the crop damage from the flooding caused by the hurricanes but its hard for me to believe that it would drive them up that much.

It must have destroyed like over half or more of the ENTIRE tomato crop....to double in price...

I dunno but it's not realistic to pay that much and I'm not going to. I have noticed a slight rise in almost all the items I buy at the market but not a double price. I can handle slight increase but this is just to much.
