Bush was Person of the Year both times he was elected. Clinton was for his first election.

IMO, it's a cop-out on Time's part.

ok i got this off wikipedia

Quote:
Since the list began, every serving President of the United States has been a Person of the Year at least once with the exceptions of Calvin Coolidge,

However what is interesting
1938

Now if none of us have been person of the year then the above person is better than all of us.

also

1939, 1942, 2007 says a lot about Obama.

And apparently Osama Bin Laden was a stronger candidate than Einstein. Says it all.

Actually, this says it all:

"Person of the Year (formerly Man of the Year) is an annual issue of the United States newsmagazine Time that features and profiles a person, group, idea or object that "for better or for worse, ...has done the most to influence the events of the year."[1]"

Well I guess as the main event of the year, over in Yank land is the election, I guess Obama did the most to influence it. As did every other president on election year.

Yeah, but if you look at the wiki link, you'll see that not every president was Person of the Year on the year that they were elected....or for those who served two terms, they were not necessarily Person of the Year for both of them.

Maybe it has just been an uneventful year. No-one has really achieved anything special in 2012. Thats my theory.

Bit of an obvious choice but considering the election and everything it makes sense.

i think he also received the nobel peace prize too .... which kinda puzzled me .... and person of the year going to every president .... well , it's obviously a simple case of brown nosing on the part of the times editor .

If you'll notice, I posted the criteria for selecting Person of the Year. It's about influence in general, not necessarily positive or negative so...it can't really be automatically considered brown nosing.
