I noticed how local DJs will completely change their lifestyle to reflect the demographic in which they live or work. I don't know if it is a common trait among radio DJs, but I'm just using this guy as an example. This is a rock DJ in Portland named Ricker who used to work in Seattle until 2009, when he moved to Portland. When he was in Seattle he totally acted like a rock star and even looked like the total hipster template; frosted tips, black nail polish, black snakeskin shoes, tons of jewelry, tight cut-off shirts.

Ever since he moved to Portland, land of hippies and activists, this is what he looks like: sweaters, scarves and cargo shorts.

He also decided to go "veg" since moving there.

Just out of curiosity...are you certain of which was the chicken and which was the egg?

Did he change because he moved or did he move because he changed?

Another weird thought...I hadn't noticed that Portland and Seattle were all that different from each other. I avoided them like the plague, but they sill seemed similar - Tree hugging hippies.

In my experience most DJ's are tossers anyways.

Anything has to be an improvement from 80's DJ's

Well I guess DJs have to be able to be identifiable with their audience, so maybe he thought doing that would help? Or maybe he just changed his lifestyle.

I met him in '09. He changed because of the move and the audience.

I'd been thinking about radio DJ's since I read this. Seems to me like there was a Portland DJ on a rock station who actually didn't like rock music at all. He was a country music fan. I guess at the end of the day, it's just a job to some people.

I've seen someone move from a rock station that's extremely liberal in the views it presented to dj'ing for a country station that is very non liberal.

I didn't like it at all and found it so hypocritical. Though glad she moved because I found her voice annoying.

Yeah...another example of "it's just a job". I guess you don't really have to like the music that you're playing to know stuff about it and announce what's going to be played...but it just feels like you're being lied to when you find out.

I've never noticed that radio stations have 'views' really, other than religious ones.

Yeah that and music is sort of personal. When you're die hard rock fan and you thinks someone else sees the beauty like you, it makes you feel good...

but I guess this stuff happens everywhere, not just radio.
