Big difference.

Still, though, not a good bill.

I think that ACTA should have gone on the SOPA thread, it's all part of the same issue.

As is this, although it might not seem so.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/facebook/9048417/Violent-criminals-use-Facebook-to-taunt-victims-from-jail.html

That's going to be seen as "justification" by authorities, or the old "If the site owners won't police it, we'll have to do it" argument. And using that fear factor, gets the policies through.
Fear is the key. The Power of nightmares politics.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/facebook/9048034/Just-one-in-ten-Facebook-users-supports-timeline-feature.html

That makes it easier to trawl looking for dissidents. especially political ones. They'll get me on day one.

It's like some conspiracy nutters nightmare, and that's the kicker, look at this growing political invasion, and you'll just dismiss it as paranoia, most people will.

If you wanna know about ACTA, it's already signed in EU.
Here is the whole meaning:

Not the whole of Europe I'm led to believe.

Cyprus,Estonia,Germany,the Netherlands,Slovakia and Switzerland haven't signed up.

I don't understand congress, it's not like making people get gun licenses has stopped illegally obtaining guns and committing murder. How is policing the internet like this going to stop people from sharing files and posting copyrighted materials. Especially with groups out there like 'Anonymous' who believe the internet should be free. By all means, I believe we should pay for copyrighted content (I use to use limewire and programs like that, but I changed. I started using paying programs like itunes, hulu, vudu, etc.). I can't see a bill like this creating a better environment. I would consider everyone who is on the internet a community, and I am sure those who feel it is wrong will stick together and really give the government a hard time.

In conclusion, I think congress should bring in some powerful web page hosts, and come up with something better than what they have proposed. I honestly cant see the web community going down with this without a fight.

By this I am not saying that people should get guns and kill each other. I am simply comparing a less dangerous thing to guns. However, I am aware that the internet can drive people to do dangerous things and if used and abused, can lead people to do just as dangerous things as if a gun was in their hand.

All I have to say on this topic is that if the governments and music/movie industry go ahead with this bill beware of what will happen after they pass it.

Anonymous and the like will f*** them up good......

PS... I am not with anonymous myself but they've already shown what they are able to do and that was a 'little' example they put out there for 24 hrs. Can you imagine the devastation of the internet world if a war between law and hackers go at it full tilt?

Not that much difference from the UK police using peoples twitter messages to arrest them for inciting looters in the London riots.I still don't know if anyone got charged through the messages themselves??.

Still just another good reason not use social networking imo.

Using social sites to organise a riot (although a silly one) scared the authorities witless.
I know the link is not a major incident, probably some operative being over zealous, but I can remember when anyone saying the governments were watching was dismissed as pure conspiracy nutter talk. It seems the nutters were in fact right on some issues.
