Is that they're only allowed to care about one thing. They care about and promote this one thing at the expense of all other concerns.

That is all.

A special interest group is a group organized a single issue (such as motorcycle rider's rights, truck driver's rights, gun owners' rights, abortion rights, etc) with the general goal of exerting political pressure on behalf of its members.

Like ..... star wars or something? I thought thats what it might have been, but worried it sounded simpler than it was

When does something stop being a group and begin being a cult? Out of curiosity and sorry jonnythan, i didnt mean to derail

The idea is that the group may exist for all sorts of reasons, such as organizing meetings, distributing information, etc.. but one of their goals is always to bend public policy in the interests of the common goal.

As an example, there's a recent news story about the AMA (American Motorcycle Association) taking issue with a state's attempt to declare an area "wilderness" because that would prevent the use of motorized vehicles in the area.

I'm not saying I disagree, but how would anything get done concerning certain issues without special interest groups?

Yes, kinda. But keep in mind that seemingly innocuous things centered around what is essentially a hobby, such as a motorcycle, skiing, hiking, or scuba diving association, fall into the same category here.

The term "special interest group" is usually associated with a group that fights for a specific cause, like Jonnythan said... Before he started saying more stuff. A cult is usually based on religion and rarely has anything to do with politics.

But what the hell do I know.
