I have learned from the novel Our Man in Havana that the main protagonist Wormold got twenty percent from every vacumn cleaner he sold in Cuba. This story took place in 1958. Is that how much a salesmen would earn from each profit? What is the current rate for salesmen? Has it gone up or down?

To be honest, I don't think sales work anymore.

Here, in 2010, most people have been conditioned to get from point A to B without anything stupid happening to them.

They all seem to believe that the best way to accomplish this is to not look around, drown out all existence around them and walk very swiftly.

If a pretty young girl whom has fallen over in the snow can't find anyone to help her up, you have a snowball's chance in hell of selling something.

I'm not sure what it is in the real world but online its a lot lower (usually 5-10%)unless your selling digital products in which case its about 50-75%

I see. Does anyone think comission work is ethical? As I understand it, salary is a more stable form of economy. If you don?t sell, your finnancial and job security are at risk.

It wouldn't be ethical if the employer expected its salesmen to be exclusively and full-time dedicated to them alone.

I've always seen sales (I've done telemarketing) as a part-time and casual situation that you use to reinforce your day job.

It's definitely ethical but should usually be part time if you want to be safe. I find it to be a great incentive to get workers to really try and do their job a lot better. It also makes it a lot more fun when you make a sale

Depends on what is being sold and how much of it. Generally speaking there are tariffs, so for example the first ten items may earn the salesman 10% whilst the next ten may be increased to 15% and so on and so forth.

They also generally use pyramid schemes.

Let?s take Robin Tunney?s father for example. He is a car salesman. How well would he have prospered?
