It depends on the circumstances. If it's someone who you have no choice but to be around, I disagree. But if it's someone you have free choice to spend time with or not, then it could be true. If you didn't like them, you simply wouldn't spend time with them.

No, I don't think that's true. I think people get caught up in trying to change other people's minds. An effort in futility, I've found, but it can happen, rarely, if the person is reasonable or open minded enough.
Precisely which is why we end up arguing, we wouldn't bother if we didn't like the other poster.
