They have drawn up plans to charge at least 50p per unit and at least ?4.50 for a bottle of wine. They believe the 50p per unit of alcohol will reduse drinking by 7%!

So what do you think!? Is it really going to affect you that much!?

Well I don't live there.
But it probably wouldn't have an effect on me. That s***'s like gas, they can keep raising the price but I'll keep buying it.

I suppose the only thing I can say here is,when seat belts in cars were introduced, they were going to slash the road toll by half, and it didn't.
So changing the price of alcohol, really won't stop people from drink more either.
I know there two different subjects there, but the comparison is the same.

I bet it causes 7% more credit card debt before it reduces drinking by 7%

You cant really get a bottle of wine for less than £5 where i live unless its on special offer somewhere. Like cigarettes, if you need it in your life you will pay the cost, however much it goes up.

This country has a tendency to listen to any wish washy ideas, that comes out of a medical person, be it doctors or consultants, and basically want to ruin it for the majority, since it is only the minority.

If they charge the minority for their medical, they should be charged and not the majority for their silly actions. I think the medical profession, has got it badly wrong. We already pay enough duty on drinks as it is. Why do they even think it is going to affect others if they want to be silly like that?

So, I say, if a drunk is injured because he was drunk, they should have to pay for the cost of the medical care, that should make people who get drunk silly every friday and saturday night hopefully realise, that their actions will be paid for by them and not the majority

Like the others have said, if people want it badly enough they will pay for it. The drink industry will suffer as more people will take to drinking at home but maybe that will have a good effect on street violence, i don't know.

Yeah it won't make much difference, wine costs more than a fiver usually anyway so in that respect it wouldn't change anything.

I don't think it will make a huge impact on me, but that's mainly cos I don't really drink that much anymore, anyway. And if I do, I go to the student union, where drinks are about half the price that they are on the high street!
