Reading some of those comments sure brings home the fact that it needs to be about the person and their qualifications for which ever office the are running for and not about them being the first something or other to hold that office.

"If she wins, Love would be the first black Republican woman ever elected to the House of Representatives." She sure as hell doesn't look anything like the current House Representatives. But I predict we will see a whole lot of this kind of stuff from the right in this next election i'm sure! They have stated in the article I linked in my OP, that they are putting EVERYTHING they got behind this woman to win!! You go girl!!!! Don't you just love how even in the year 2012, we are STILL saying things like...."first black"

From what very little they showed in that video (and since it's a different state altogether I admittedly don't care enough to look into her more), she seems like a decent candidate. I may decide to study her more if she wins.

And I think that's fair and really all we can do, I would do the same.

Especially since there has been elected black politicians in office in America since the late 1800's.

Hiram Revels of Mississippi became the first African American senator in 1870

Blanche K. Bruce Elected to the Senate in 1874 by the Mississippi state legislature, he served from 1875 to 1881, becoming the first African American to preside over the Senate in 1879.

haha, that's amazingly non subtle.

It just makes republicans look backward instead of progressive when they essentially high-light her with "oh look! she's a black conservative, weird huh?"

Yeah, except now they keep adding more adjectives between "first black" and the "person" part. Before you know it, we'll be celebrating the first black, Jewish gay man to be a podiatrist on the moon.

She's a unique candidate which I'm guessing makes her unlike most people... which is strange isn't it? I mean, aren't representatives supposed to "represent" their constituency? How can she represent people with whom she shares so little? Are people looking for a "representative" in her, or a leader?
