I'm sorry but the only way that the third world could be changed is if the massive debt it owes to other countries (mainly the u.s, u.k and most of europe) is written off. Where do you think all the millions rasied over the years has gone? We hear on adverts that just a pound a day could help 100 people eat. Millions of pounds have been rasied over the last 20 years from various charities and they are still in the s***. Why because most of that money has gone towards the debts of the economy. They owe and external debt of $230 billion. And it seems to me that in the middle of a famine, less mouths to feed would be a good idea. But Noooo, these guys breed like rabbits and why? To send the kids off to work as early as 5 years old. Like it or not, there is nothing the average person can do about these people dying, tragic though it is, and I do think it is tragic. But I would rather help people who matter to me than someone I will never meet. Selfish though it sounds.

And why do they do that?

- Because they don't have birth control
- Because conditions are so harsh that to even have a chance of a few kids surviving you have to have a ton of them (research R vs. K strategies in evolution for more on that -- or see my post earlier about improving the economy)
