Should be titled,

'Definition of a militant hater of religion.'

Our friend does not strike me as a Christian inquisitor or Muslim jihadist type.

No one hates freedom of religion like Christians and Muslims.

Inquisition and Jihads are obvious evidence and proof of that fact.

4. Everyone goes to eternity to face their Creator after they die. The fact that even one person won't stand eternally condemned is the ony reason any of us can truly understand Grace and Mercy. The God of heaven and earth is slow to anger and would have none perish.

That is a lie unless you have first hand knowledge to share.

How do you see grace and mercy from a god who is said to withhold his grace from the vast majority of us?

Look up how often your god hardens hearts and wonder why he would interfere with the free will Christians think he has given us.

You might want to read your bible before saying that your genocidal and infanticidal god knows anything of mercy or grace.

You would not want to be accused of being bling to what yoiur a hole god really is and does.

“When you’re dividing (reading for understanding) the Bible, you keep the main thing the main thing.”

Isn’t it time Christians get back to the fundamentals?

Libraries are devoted to that.

The best shortest answers that I see include:

“Stick with the obvious and clear meaning of the text.”
“Avoid esoteric or elaborate interpretation when a simpler one is there.”
“Avoid whimsical or flighty doctrine.”

That doesn’t really scratch the surface.

The original OP wasn’t trying to shed on the subject and I thought it was time a non jokey contribution made its way.

So, you wouldn't include reading ALL of the bible and studying both its content and formation?

Intersting.

Not sure where you're headed exactly but I can say that one of the thrusts of fundamentalism is to push back from a pure experiential and subjective understanding of the faith.

Which one obtains by not reading and studying the bible... apparently.

Neither subjective nor objective understanding. What is the alternative?

The way that it was explained to me understanding is based on both induction and deduction.

Maybe we do not understand until we understand that we don't understand.

Exactly!

You don't have to understand. You just gotta have faith!

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.
Just place your tithing in the plate.
And don't forget to go into the closet and tell me all your dirty little secrets.

'Cause Jesus he knows me
And he knows I'm right
I've been talking to Jesus all my life
Oh yes he knows me
And he knows I'm right
Well he's been telling me
Everything's gonna be alright, alright

Some things can be understood.

Some things cannot be understood.

Some things can only be partially understood.

With some things it is obvious almost immediately that one will never understand "it"... with other things it takes a life time to gain the smallest glimmer of understanding "it".
