I will elaborate..

Last night I was meeting my boyfriend for dinner. I was running late and not particularly rushing. He wanted me to meet his friends too. Some of them had to leave about 8pm. I did not arrive until 7.30 so they had started to eat.

I felt put out that they did not wait for me and said I was not hungry and did not want anything.

Later on I was starving and sulky and mooing with a big trout pout.

I should have just said I needed to eat when I arrived and they was eating. Rather than get all butt hurt and unreasonable (how could I expect a bunch of people to wait for me before they had dinner when I was already running late and they had to get going to other places?)

So what I mean is, do not cut off your nose to spite your face. Look at a situation from all sides and re-evaluate it before you get into a childish strop and do not be a martyr because that is just stupid and proves no point.

If you are upset about something, mention it, discuss it, drop it. If you still have a problem with it, it's your problem, so deal with it. Do not bring up the same things over and over in arguments as though you are keeping score of your partners faults. That will build resentment, destroy communication and trust, and lead to either them drawing away, or, creating their own list to shoot back at you. But either way, the relationship is dead.

Wait until after the honeymoon phase is over to make a big commitment, ESPECIALLY ESPECIALLY ESPECIALLY if you have fundamental differences (ie - one person is atheist, one believes in God, one person wants kids and the other doesn't, etc.) You will save yourself a world of heart ache if you wait to evaluate those differences instead of saying "Oh we'll make it work."

Don't get complicated if the basics have not yet been fully understood. So... essentially, no. No surprise parties. Why? Yes, they are cute and sweet, but the small sacrifice of that vs the big gaping window you leave open for people who are liars that will use that window for bad things... its worth the surrender.

What do you do if you just loose interest after a few hours or days, and just want to be left alone after?

Never go to bed angry. I have to say though, this has caused many nights of no sleep

Know where your keys and wallet are at all times. Be in the habit of keeping them within arm's length. If your partner starts yelling and using hand-motions and gets in your face you can walk out of the room.

Seriously?

Sometimes sleep can help clear the air and give you a better perspective in the morning. Depends on the couple.

on that note, never storm out in a fight without your keys and wallet, because having to slink back into get them totally ruins the melodramatic exit.
