This link was forwarded to me by a friend in Australia. I think the author of the article makes a fairly good argument for staying out of Syria and explaining why America's leaders seem to be determined to rush headlong into destruction.

Yes I see. Well, maybe the debate in American (U.S.) Congress will wake up "some people."

Actually it would seem that America's leaders are NOT determined to rush headlong into destruction... at least not relative to Syria.

Obama has essentially passed the buck to the U.S. Congress.

The U.S. Congress would have to have 217 vote in favor of military strike(s) agains Syria.

Presently there are 41 for military strikes and 229 against/leaning against.... with 169 undecided.

It all 169 undecided members decided to support military strikes, the vote would still fall short.

The odds that Congress will support military strikes against Syria are slim and getting slimmer.

Instead of just blowing up parts of Syria, maybe there is a better solution. If the problem is chemical weapons and Syria gives control of all of it's chemical weapons to international monitors, do we really need to bomb Syria? Just bombing them will not make the world safer. If instead of bombing them they surrender their chemical weapons, we all win. There is a proposal for this being considered now.

Corey,

That must be a fake link or a fake story... Obama seems to be acting rationally, and we all know that is impossible.

Come on people this means one
There is a civil war over there.
Lots of said groups who hate the US. Would love to get their hands on this gas.

The Pentagon has said just to guard the workers and the gas would take 75,000 boots on the ground.
I wonder whose boots that would be.

I can smell the blood now!!!!

I pay little attention to the Russians and what they say but I thought Putin fixed all this? I thought he told Syria to give him their chemical weapons and they decided to do it so strike avoided?

The United States and Russia announced an ambitious plan to transfer Syria's massive chemical weapons stockpile to international control by the middle of next year, at which point they would be destroyed.

Under the agreement, Syria only has one week to declare the size and location of its chemical weapons stashes. The disarmament would also be expedited, with inspectors arriving by November. Some weapons would be destroyed within Syria, while others may be transferred abroad for destruction..

Is it possible that diplomacy might be working?
