How does everyone in England feel about the new law about smoking? This is happening in a week and few dyas!

To be honest I think it will damage the pubs and nite - clubs as many people do smoke, especially when they have a drink. So therefore no smoking in pubs n clubs, no people. It will be alright in the hot weather, coz u can go outside. But no - one is gona go outside in the rain!

I'm glad these rules are being made in the UK and US, because frankly I hate it, i start coughing and it's easy to get lung cancer from second hand smoke.

My mom smokes and I think it's better not to have so much influence on kids by smoking because sometimes she will buy cigs with our last 5 bucks when we need gas for work/school

it's a terrible thing to get into and I'm glad it's being dealt with so at least there's not so much influence of it.

There's a whole new culture that has developed here since the smoking ban came in. The in place to meet someone of the opposite sex is outside the pub in the smoking shelter.
Pub owners whinged that it was going to destroy their profits but I haven't seen any pubs closing.

I understand banning smoking from restraunts. Why not leave it up to the owner of the pubs and bars? They could post signs, "Smoking facility. Enter at Your Own Risk" or "Please Do Not Smoke In Our Establishment". People would have a choice, not just a certain group.

I am very excited about the new ban. No longer will I leave a club feeling as I've smoked 40 cigarettes when I'm actually a non smoker! one of my smoking friends is even looking forward to it, and the ban has worked very well in scotland, where it has been introduced since last year. in fact, most pubs have NOT seen a decline in clientele, so I think that any people predicting that will happen are talking a load of old rubbish.

I understand banning smoking from restaurants. Why not
leave it up to the owner of the pubs and bars? They could post
signs, "Smoking facility. Enter at Your Own Risk" or "Please Do Not
Smoke In Our Establishment". People would have a choice, not just a
certain group.

People do NOT have a choice. You see, before it was like this in
Italy. You could choose whether smoking is allowed in your
restaurant. So the owners argued: if we forbid it we are loosing our
clients. As a matter of fact this meant: you are not smoking? Then
either you stay at home or you undergo the molest of smoke all over.
Now there has been in Italy (I think since 3 years now) a very severe
smoking law. No smoking at all whether pub or restaurant....or you
may mount a ventilation with an enormous volume debit so that you are
at all effects not hurting though passive smoke the non smokers.
The result: all restaurants and bars avoided the cost of the air
ventilation and......nobody did loose anything. On the contrary: the
affaires of bars and pubs went up. That's why smokers did still go to
bars but educatedly went outside to smoke. They smoke less (which is
good for their health and for the public health care spending too)
and they meet each other outside, having small talk. Interestingly
the "in front of the door" thing has gotten a social function and is
mixing up people that normally wouldn't get to know to each other.
I said the earnings of the bars went up: that is a fact. Non smokers
(the wast majority of the populations, also of your population,
beleave it) are now going more easily in a bar. Especially women
appreciate not to stink like ashtrees but to smell with the perfume
they did choose to wear that night.
Think about the restaurants: the thing is that smokers beleave to be
educated when they postpone to smoke up to the moment the others at
the table have finished to eat. But they are not since when their
friends have finished at the table aside the toddler and the little
girl that came with their family, the guy next to you with asthma,
and other people in the room that are severely bothered...just get
the full load of stink. The are educatedly suffering, they are pissed
off anyway though.
I think once the law is working you are going to LOVE it whether you
are smoker or not. And you are going to discover a whole new life
quality. Re
Regardless of whether you smoke...or not.

personally i cant wait for it, my bf has nad cancer and hes been told to avoid smokey places so we only go to one pub (wetherspoons (sp) ) becuase thats the only no smoking one around here

scotland has had the ban for a while and apparently it doesnt effect traid(sp)

if people arnt going to go out drinking just because they cant smoke i find that very sad

im also looking foward to it because the smell of stale smoke from a night out on clothes and hair is minging

if people want to damage their own health then fair enough but they have no right to damage the health of those around them

I'm a smoker and the ban affected me in the way that unless I'm working i dont go to Pub or Clubs. But I'm teatotal so there is no great loss of profits. But what you going to do the only thing I'm against is that politicians are now talking about making it illegal to smoke in your own car, that is just too much like Big Brother.

i think it's a good idea..
i was in ireland for a few weeks visiting friends..and pubs seemed to have compromised by introducing outside smoking areas(sheltered obviously!)..and well my friends just stayed out there the whole evening.so it's kind of worked in their favor.
anyone who doesnt want to inhale the smoke can sit inside.
