I've used sleeping pills forever and I fear I may have developed a dependency on them. Last night was the first night in years I was able to sleep without them and now my heart's bugging me. It's not a heart attack, I'm familiar with the symptoms due to my police training and other courses such as anatomy and physiology. Has anyone overcome some sort of addiction where you can telll me if thiis is just a symptom?

If you've taken them for years, the only way to get over a dependency on them, unfortunately, is to either just stop taking them and cope with sleepless nights, or ween yourself off of them. My best friend just stopped. I would use them one night not the next (did that for 2 weeks), then one night with, 2 without for 2 weeks. 1 night with 3 without for 2 weeks. 1 night with 4 without for 2 weeks and so on until I was down to only using them occasionally.

I was prescribed sleeping pills initially because one of the side effects of another medication I was taking was insomnia. I was going 2 or 3 days without sleeping, then crashing for 24 to 30 hours. Because of drug interactions, it wasn't as easy as just putting me on something else. But I ended up with a dependency on the sleeping pills. The process of going off of them was worked out carefully with my doctor and it worked. My best friend had a harder time because she just quit. She said she had what she would call actual withdrawal symptoms. Racing heart, sweating, and so on.

It may be a touch of withdrawal because your body is used to them. I got over taking them every night and only take them once in awhile. There's a whole list of tricks; like calming down in stages. I'll try to see if I can remember them all.
Now I sleep when my body tells me to and only take them if I have to be somewhere early in the morning.

Thank you both Also, I'm being weaned from the labatolol. Dr. Flauto figures it's long since time to get off of them so we gonna try again to lose em. I'm gonna start seeing an Endocrinologist named Dr Madhoon and a cardiologist (forgot the name) both starting in April so I'll letcha know.

I'm getting ready to see a nephrologist and a radiologist as soon as I call to make appointments
