There's an article about this here -> https://www.newsday.com/news/nationworld/wire/sns-ap-inmates-organ-donations,0,3608510.story?coll=sns-ap-nationworld-headlines

Some of them have committed horrible acts which may cause us to not care about their wellbeing, but what about say a business man that made the mistake of embezzlement. Should we care about his wellbeing? Does the use of such an ultimatum negate their ability to rationally consent to donating organs? Some people would probably donate an organ to get out of jail even though the same person might not have consensually donated their organs had they not been in prison.
What do you think?

I don't know , I guess it would somewhat depend on what the offense was or whatever. I don't think a rapist or a murderer should be let out or a child abuser. Hell to be honest I really don't know how I feel on this topic but it is interesting to ponder.

I have to agree, I mean if this sort of thing did go ahead the said prisoner could just go "I'll donate an organ" then be out sooner than they should be.

Nope. They did a crime they should be responsible for their actions and deal with the consequences. If inmates were able to donate organs to get a reduced sentence its just like a get out of jail free card...life doesnt work like that

no i dont think they should, they are in prison for a reason so why should they donate a a body part to get out quicker, they already have early release for good behaviour,so why give them another reason to get out quicker, more money should be put into a opting out of donating system, i feel that way there would be more donors .

nope,do the crime do the time, you would think that they would get enough of a kick out of breaking the monotony of their prison lives by going through the process of donating.maybe there could be a note of their "generosity" in their parole file?

As long as they don't donate their brains they should go for it. Sitting around in prison is a way to repay their debt to society and donating an organ is an even better way to repay that debt. What could be better than a murder giving his liver to some dying guy?

I can see the temptation due to the shortage of organs, but the consequences are undeniable. Potentially dangerous people being let out sooner than they should. However, many prisoners are already let out as early as 1/3 of their sentence for "Good behavior" (which i don't agree with, but that's beside the point). One could consider organ donating as good behavior in a sense, or "repaying society" in a more useful way than just sitting in a jail cell I suppose. But I'm not sure if it would help the criminal not want to commit their crime again. Granted, a person only has so many organs they can donate, and I'm sure the major surgery involved in removing organs probably isn't fun, and would most likely be a memorable experience to say the least.
I don't know, it's tricky.

Yeah, having your organs harvested will definitely leave a long lasting impression on the convicts. A murder let out early would think twice before killing someone because he doesn't really want to toss out another organ.

Question also would people accept the organs? Who wants to be living with the organs of a killer or child molester etc...

I think they should make it so they can just take the organs based purly on the fact that there in jail. Make it part of serving a sentance more then 6 years.
