Should Sock Puppet Profiles Be Banned?

Should users be allowed more than one profile?

No, they shouldn't be banned. Why would anyone want them banned?

I personally, find them to be quite amusing; and for the most part, can guess if I already know them or not before they tell me.

Ok, so they are occassionally amusing, but is that because those that are pitched that way are openly known to be intended as such?

There are a few who are sweet and endearing, but I admit, there are some that I am not quite sure of the motivation for roaming around under so many different accounts. Boredom? Just a curious question at this point.

My very mod-like response to this is that sock puppets are not against the rules.

The only time a sock puppet account is a problem is if the sock puppet is being used to cause problems or if it being used to get around a ban. Those are the only times we ban sock puppets.

I don't personally have any problem with people having sock puppet accounts.

I'm not saying it's against the rules, hence the question on whether it should be.

I suppose..for the most part; as for any potential 'malice', if that is what you are getting at, I think that most people are 'aware' enough.

I like it here and don't want to have myself and fellow good sock-puppets thrown to the way side. Don't hate us because of the few evil doers.

I can see where there are good reasons to have a second account.

But not everyone is "noble" in their intent. It has caused some problems and hurt feelings.

I think its easier to just punish the ones that do get out of hand, and actually go as far as to break TOS, rather than take away the options of everyone.

I do have a second account myself.

I have a sock puppet. I freely admit that, I did not hide it from anyone, I do not harass anyone with it, I do not abuse TFS with it and everyone knows its me. Well, its Max using that account because he writes swear words and talks about boobies and I do not want him writing about that under my account.

I guess that was Davii's intent and point, the few who abuse it come to light and ruin it for everyone else who are sweet and fun with it.

I vote "no". It takes long enough to get to know a person under ONE screen name. Something about having more than one account and avvy seems vaguely sneaky to me!! I don't have one, although once I used someone else's for a BRIEF time. Is that against TOS? The person wasn't banned, just created another account for fun. I thought it took too much time to re-create myself, so I went back to Bozie!!!
