We're all obsessed with safety these days.

But it's not possible to be 100% safe.

Where do we stop?

Where ever 'reasonably practible' is according to my H&S trainers.
Safe enough so that people can only hurt themselves as a result of their own stupidity, not to safe that they cant do the job properly

but it's not just accidents. It's safety from each other, from other nations, from any potential threat of harm.

If you can easily lose a digit or limb then it's not safe enough.

If you have to put in effort to lose a digit or limb then it's about right

Panem et circenses is now beer, football, and safety.

I think he's talking more about omnipresent law enforcement, racial profiling, etc.

Beer, football and the illusion of safety

But you are right. I am talking about the increasingly invasive role government plays in the name of guaranteeing our safety.

While we have blame culture, and people continue to blame the governments of the world for not protecting them, they are going to keep on squezing our freedoms untill we are safe, or they pass the point that they can be blamed for anything.

I just think as long as I'm not scared to leave my front door I'm happy. There are always going to be dangers around and trying to prevent bad things happening all the time is unrealistic.

Bread and fun. Can't be 100% safe, but I'll look after my own and anybody around me, no matter what.

Well i think they are making us neurotic in the UK. Im all for prevention of health problems but they are ramming it down our throats at the moment. Smokers, drinkers and burger eaters are becoming social outcasts. I know smoking, drinking and eating burgers isnt good for me, so does pretty much all of the population. I dont need to be told 20 times a day.

A comedian said something on the lines of how it has become more socially acceptable to snort cocaine than to eat mcdonalds.
