Hello,

I have planted a rhubarb plant in Autumn (Australia) and it's now dead. I planted it in red volcanic soil (Alstonville).. I was told that rhubarb doesn't like clay-like soil (it's not that clay-like but the redness makes it look like clay) but I've turned my soil over a lot and I've added heaps of organic matter. Everything else is flourishing!

I just don't understand what I'm doing wrong, I really want to grow rhubarb!! I got a root cutting the other day and planted in a different position. Hopefully it grows.

Should rhubarb be started off in pots? or is it just the soil I've planted them in?

Thnx

This is what my first one ended up looking like after a while.

Then it died after about 2 weeks later.

Not only for the flavour, you don't have to use yeast, because the rhubarb draws natural yeast into it's stalk.. It also adds a nice rhubarb flavour with lemon also
