In my World Religions class, we have sometimes talked about the similarity of religions. When we discussed Hinduism, we saw that Hinduism states that all religions really are the same, that they all strive towards the same goal, to be together with God.

What does everyone think? Do all religions essentially say the same thing?

If most religions do say the same thing, can you think of any religions that say something different?

MMmmmmmmmm yeah to certain extend like some dont believe in christmas etc or celebrate it, so how can they believe in god? if they dont believe in xmas cos he was born that day. but yeah they do pretty much strive towards the same thing, just do it in different ways.

They all do kind of say that. Buddhism says that negative actions will make it harder to reach nirvana and positive actions will get one closer to nirvana, and Christianity says that bad things go against God's wishes and that doing good will help put you in God's favor.

Every mainstream religon has got some things right but also has some things wrong, it is the way they have been manipulated by human hands that is the problem

Is it not possible to believe in God and not celebrate Christmas? Only Christians celebrate Christmas in the sense that it is the celebration for the birth of Christ.

Don't other religions, ones that don't believe that Christ is God, believe in some sort of God?

Every religion may have some things right and some things wrong, but is there a common thing within each religion throughout the world?

each one follows the same path it is true, many followers who say this is wrong or that is wrong in a different religon don't realise just how alike thier own religon is

basic morality, they all preach the best way to live out your life, what u need to di in order to reach enlightenment or to get to heaven when what really matters is how you live, not what you do or whether u follow a book to the letter. Live with positivity and positivity is all you will receive in return, preach negativity such as not liking somebody because they are gay or a diff colour or of course a member of a different religon, and negativity is what you will get in return. Life is hard for us all and no matter what colour, creed or religon we are all the same...

I think that essentially they are all the same. They all seek to show humans how to live their lives to be the best people that they can be. It doesn't matter who you follow...as long as you try to be good to others and improve upon yourself, IMO.

yes, they are all essentially the same.

there are no new myths. there are some differences in "perspective". read some of Joseph Campbell's stuff..."the hero with 10,000 faces" is one, "transformations of myth through time" is another.

the judeo-christian-islamic religions are less tolerant or less accepting of the universal theme of all religions and more adamant that their god is the one and only "right" god.

an early christian gnostic writer put it this way, "the problem with Yaweh is that he thinks he is god"

What about Satanism as described in the Church of Satan, which proclaims that there is no God (or devil) and that humans should not abstain from anything?
