Not logic, proof or rationality.

So why do we atheists continue to insist on trying to argue logic and rationality against faith?

Further, the very definition of faith -

firm belief in something for which there is no proof

(Merriam Webster Dictionary)

precludes proof.

So why do we continue to argue about proof?

Because some people like to argue, and to be proven right.

We have no proof proving or disproving god.

When science cant answer the questions some people take it opon themselves hence the continued religious support.

I consider myself spiritual, but not religious in that I do not follow a heirarchical religious school of thought or organised religious heirarchy.
Most atheists I have discussed with operate onthe basis of faith as defined above.
I live my life on the basis of what I feel and know to be true.
Many atheists do not in fact know where they come from at all. What is that spark of life that makes you who you are? Atheists believe that life can be reduced to genetic program, biology, electric pulses and chemicals. But really they do not know that, they don't know how it all works to make you you, where consciousness and your unique personality come from. They take it on faith that scientists have the answers somwewhere, or that somehow it all comes together by an accidental process.
I don't have all the answers, I only know what I know. I guess some things and may be wrong about those.
I don't think I really take anything on faith as such - believing what someone tells me just because - but then I am not religious, nor am I an atheist.

There is a sudden Dawkin's movement amongst athiests and some just like to argue for s***s and giggles. I give up a long time ago trying to convince people that i am right and they are wrong simply because 1. its egotistical 2. its none of my business 3. i was behaving no better than the guy who screams about Jesus at you outside barclays bank.

I guess it's really hard for some atheists to accept that people place more importance on faith than they do evidence.

It's almost the same as someone telling me I'm going to hell for not having faith. If I don't have faith to begin with, is telling me I'm going to a place I don't believe in really going to change my entire mindset?

Logic, proof and rationality can take you much closer to the truth than faith can. That's why.

I don't argue against faith, i don't care about the people who have faith. It's the theists who claim to have evidence that their god is the right god or that creationism is science etc that i argue against. As far as i can tell this seems to be what most people argue against. If in a discussion someone says i just believe it because i have faith then fair enough there is really no point wasting time talking to them, my time would be better spent talking to brick walls of coma patients.
