The crazy white boys going to surf is actually true had the police allowed it I have so many friends that would have been taking advantage without showing the least bit of respect

Some surfers know why the waves were 3 feet higher and I find it to be disrespectful surfing the waves (with knowledge) of a disaster killing near 800 people. I dunno, I just wouldn't see it being respectful either

Yes, I can see where some would find it disrespectful. I just think people's blood is up right now....the MAGNITUDE of this tragedy is breathtaking, and NOT in a good way!

I wouldn't neccassarily say he's "role-model" material, but I still like him. What he said is the same thing some of my friends would say (my first thought was which of my idiot friends were going to go surfing who happen to be white). He did actually say himself that they were ignorant and apologized in his own sort of way, which is more than some people. Does that help JMO?
