Apparently they now want to increase the price of alcohol, again.

Some t*** on tv who's a 'liver specialist' believes alcohol should have a minimum price so that people can't afford to drink as much.

I mean f***ing hell, half my money is already going to the high price of alcohol in this country, the last thing I need is to have to spend more.

Sounds like it's going to work, then.

Wouldn't work, i'd just spend less money on food to make up for it.

And whats the point? If I wanna drink, I wanna drink, sometimes it's all that gets me through a day, last thing I need is some English t*** in a suit telling me I can't.

Sounds good to me it may cut down on the binge drinking that goes on across the country every weekend! which will save our emergency services valuable time and money that can be used elsewhere more productively.

stupid really,
our drink is already taxed more than yours and it has no effect.
taxing does not work on substances like alchol, it doesn't conform to the normal principles of supply and demand.
in order for it to have an effect the price would have to rise very steeply.
right now people are just willing to pay, and it effects the disposable income of poorer families.

tackling drinking is a social issue and can't be dealt with through price changes, its nice to see them dealing with the other issues too though, alot of money is going into trying to change peoples attitudes.
if that money comes from the increased tax then i guess you could say its positive.

Whoever said raising the price wont help, its a social issue, yes I agree!!
Anyway its apparently the middleclass who drink the most, so they arent gonna notice a difference, and if its to stop our yob culture from binge drinking on the streets, a price increase as to where they cant afford it is probably gonna lead them to steal it, which is a slide down the snake of demise.
I like to go out and get drunk on the weekends I dont drink everynight tho, dont think thats a good thing, people who have to have a drink to chill out everyday dont need a drink they need some help! Go joggin or something.
The UK is pretty rubbish in places tho, so if people wanna drink to mask the crippling depression of our winters then go for it I say!!

I don't see it diminishing the purchase of alcohol. Sadly young drinkers are not going to drink less, let alone anyone else that drinks on a regular basis. What makes me worried is the parents that drink too much as it is, and will spend even less on what their children need. More kids in the system needing help. We sure as hell know that those on social assistance that drink to excess will spend less on necessities and more on booze.

I rarely drink, so I'm not sure if alcohol has gone up in price in Canada or not. LOL

I know here in New York the price of beer has gone up as Hopps have gone up. Just like everything else it's a sliding scale.
