It's my nephews christening on sunday and I'm ordering him an engraved present. As most of you know I've been with neil 3 years, it's serious and my family like him a lot. However, although we always put both our names on cards and presents for our families and friends, I'm not sure if I'm supposed to put his name (ie to my nephew he's Uncle Neil) on the engraving as we're not married so he's not officially his uncle yet? What do you think?

Go for it. It's your relationship, and he's your partner. Your nephew isn't going to grow up calling him "Boo's partner Neil", he's in all probability going to grow up calling him Uncle anyway.

Thanks, he's uncle neil to him anyway, just not in official terms, I didn't know if there were any sorts of rules about these things as it's different!

My nieces and nephews all call Tim "Uncle Tim".. My parents refer to him as their son-in-law, and my sisters call him brother-in-law..

Even though we can't yet get legally married. Once we're adults, we get to choose our family.

I bought a book for my ex-boyfriend's niece and we wrote a message inside the cover for her and we ended it with "love from Uncle ---- and Laura". I just put my name as it wasn't a serious kind of relationship like that

Although your relationship is undoubtedly more serious than ours was So yeah, if he's been accepted as part of the family, although unofficial, I would say go for it.

Go for it. You know you love him. You should include Elmo on it too then.
