So, I am asking the Aussies of the site, would you consider Scottish people Poms, or just the English?

I ask, as when I went to Australia I wasn't refered to as a Pom once, but a few English people I met whilst I was there were teased for being Poms, got me wondering whether I'd be considered one or not.

jmo: Nope, not as far as I know. I've only ever heard of British people being referred to as Poms over here.

Natasha: Pom= Pommy. A Brit. Also referred to as Pomgolians as in 'Pomgolia'. Stay tuned for more crappily thought out nicks for British people.

Ah good.

An aussie mate of mine said she'd marry me if I wanted an Australian visa.

I think she was being serious too, might have to take her up on that.

There are a few explanations for POMS or POMME. The ones I'm most familiar with go back to our convict days when Australia was a British penal colony and the convicts were referred to as......Prisoners. =..P......of....=..O....Mother England...= M. Or another drift on the same slant, prisoners of mother England, all around the same theme.

Poms or pommies are English people, Scots are those from Scotland and The Welsh are from Wales....that's my take on it anyway. I'm married to a POM...who had the "operation"...became an Australian citizen. I am a 4th generation " Ozzie "

I still love Scotland, second best country I've ever visited (Australia being first).

To be honest, Scotland and Australia aren't too disimilar in alot of ways. Like the society is similar, cept you lot are more laid back and nice (e.g. when i got confused with the met cards in Melbourne, the bus driver actualy helped explain it to me, in Scotland they'd just get pissed off at you).

I was in Scotland 15 years ago.....ancestors were McKenzies, way back. It was the most amazingly beautiful country I've ever seen. Not that I've been to many. But your mountains with long flowing waterfalls that start off looking like tiny strands of silk in the far distance, and end up a roar so loud you can't hear yourself speak, the heather, your music, your history and culture, your ancientness.........AMAZING !!!!
